Review: ALEXII FORREST – All Night

Rating: 3.5/5 || For lovers of: Lana Del Rey or Grimes

Raised in Byron Bay, before calling Sydney home, singer/songwriter ALEXII FORREST has released her first 2020 Unearthed single, ‘All Night’. Uploaded to Triple J Unearthed on the 13th of December 2020, the single has seen immense success for the solo artist, charting 1st overall on the Unearthed Indie Charts and 5th on the Unearthed Overall Charts. Using her environmental upbringing as the basis for her style of music, ALEXII FORREST blends indie, chill and EDM elements, creating a unique fusion of sound.

The song opens up with what feels like a wall of sound, contributed by bass and synth,

slowly breaking into airy piano chords. ALEXII’s ethereal voice captures you, melding

together with the instrumentation to become what only feels like a dream-like trance.

Transitioning with a smooth falsetto into the chorus, the song showcases the immense vocal control and range that ALEXII possesses. The mixture of both the piano and low fi beats makes you want to dance whilst also completely relaxes you at the same time.

Overall, I think the song fits well into the current Triple J market with its catchy beat and vocal expertise shown by ALEXII.

I personally enjoyed the song as it is well constructed, captivating and extremely relaxing. I especially loved the bridge of this song as it is extremely unique. If you are a fan of Lana Del Rey or Grimes, then I highly recommend you have a listen to ALEXII FORREST!
